People have got so used to the hard sell tactics of the timeshare industry that they simply brush it off as though it were nothing. I felt really intimidated at one presentation; they had our backs up against the wall and I was shaking when I left the building.

If a product is so good, then why practically bully people into buying it?

The truth is that if you talk to people that have left the industry they will tell you that seldom if ever does any sales person own their own product. Added to this was a startling opening paragraph from the website of a timeshare brokerage. This is what they said, and they said it as though it were a good reason to buy timeshare:

“TimeshareHotDeal…
Turning dream vacations into reality!

The power of the timeshare resale market can save you 30-50% on your next timeshare purchase! Timeshare resales are a great alternative to expensive, cramped hotel rooms.”

I wonder whether it ever occurred to them that if you are saving 50%, someone else is losing it! I would not use this as a good investment incentive. In fact I would be hiding this from my clients.

I do think that buying the top week, in the right resort, or into a scheme that allows you to go to many other resorts might be a good idea. But I can’t think of anything that is better than a membership with global resorts. A top timeshare week will easily cost you anything between $6000 and $40 000, or more. Week 8 at the Sheraton Vistana Resort will set you back $6500. And then you still have to find the $671 for the annual maintenance fee whether you visit it or not.

The luxury resorts membership costs only $2995. And it will cost you less than the timeshare maintenance fee to visit this resort for a full week; how’s that for scary?

They have 5000 resorts around the world, which include ski resorts and golf resorts. I don’t think any timeshare package can give anyone access to this many. But the most startling thing of all is that with timeshare, you have only one week. With your luxury resort lifetime membership you can access any of these resorts all year round. The most expensive weeks, around $799, usually for at least a two bed and in most cases a three bed unit, cost less than the average timeshare maintenance annual fee; and don’t forget you’re not locked into just one week; go as many times as you want.

Someone is duping someone.

Take a good look at the luxury resort membership and you will see that the hard-sell of timeshare is a much needed tool to manoeuvre people into buying something that seldom does what people imagine.
